With our own domestically sourced casings, we control the casing manufacturing process ‘end to end’, from the abattoir through to delivery. Every natural casing that passes through our plants in NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Victoria is given a stringent specification check and assigned a batch reference number as part of our QA HACCP certification.

What Are Natural Sausage Casings?

Natural sausage casings are derived from the intestines of pigs, lambs or cattle and have been a staple of traditional sausage-making for centuries. Compared to artificial casings made from synthetic or processed materials, natural casings deliver a much more tender bite while offering that beloved “snap” when bitten. Elasticity and production benefits

Natural casings’ high elasticity and tensile strength mean they can be filled more efficiently without ripping or tearing, meaning less time re-threading casings. As an added benefit, natural casings are endothermic, so they draw heat away from the sausage, helping to prolong shelf life and maintain a fresher-looking product.

Natural lamb casings

Superior supplies both Fine Emulsion and Coarse-Grade natural lamb and sheep casings. These are perfect for a variety of sausage styles, including fine breakfast sausages, frankfurters, cabanossi and barbecue sausages. With a translucent, creamy white colour, our natural lamb casings make for an attractive fresh sausage display while their uniform shape and size facilitate standardised quantities when packaging.

Superior’s natural lamb casings are sized to your requirements, including long, waste-free strands that can yield more than 10% better stuffing ratios compared to shorter strands. Our natural lamb casings come in various gauges and can be ordered tubed, pre-flushed or salt-packed.

Natural hog casings

Our Australian and North American natural hog casings are ideal for both fresh and smoked sausage production. Superior’s hog casings are available in uniform diameters — perfect for pork sausages, gourmet sausages, kielbasa and pepperoni — and speciality items such as chitterlings and hog bungs — ideal for salami and liver sausage.
